Kurzthese

Global migration is one of the central challenges of the 21st Century. Over 230 million people will have left their homes this year in search of refuge elsewhere, including Europe. In this session, we examine how narrative, media, and social innovation can translate to positive action for affected populations in sending and receiving countries through the lens of a successful digital storytelling platform.

Over 230 million people in the world will have left their homes this year in search of relief and refuge elsewhere. Most of them would rather have stayed.

In this session, we examine the global migration crisis through the lens of migrants' own stories, presented by a successful media campaign: Who Is Dayani Cristal? is an award-winning documentary film and social impact campaign that incorporated storytelling, design, innovation, and direct action on behalf of migrants in Central America, Mexico, and the United States. The strategist and co-producer of the campaign, Lina Srivastava, will discuss how these elements helped bring positive change, and engage the audiencce on how European media producers and innovators can use the Who Is Dayani Cristal model and their own skills to address migration issues.
